Sunil Kumar Wrestler was born in farmer family at Dabarpur Village of Sonipat Distt. in Haryana. He has also an elder brother. His father wanted him to become a wrestler. He has two brothers, but the financial condition of the house was not good. So, his father arranged a race competition between the two brothers and said that the one who wins will take the training of the wrestler and the other will work in the field with him. Despite being 8 years younger than his brother, he won the race. His father sent him to the arena of Medani village in Jind district to take training to become a wrestler at just 9 years of age!
Now Sunil Kumar have also won many medals in different national and international wrestling competition but his father is not alive now.
Sunil Kumar is now working in Indian Railway also. He joined Indian Railway in 2008.
Gold in Asian Wrestling Championship:

Yesterday 19thFebruary 2020, he won the Gold Medal in Asian Wrestling Championship by defeating Ajat Salidinochav of Kyrgyzstan 5–0 in the 87 kg weight category in final bout. Sunil Kumar became the third Indian to win gold in Greco Roman. India won the last gold medal in Greco Roman in the year 1998. Pappu Yadav won the Asian Gold medal in Greco Roman in the 48kg category.
In 2019, he had to be content with the silver medal. He was then defeated by Hussein Ahmed Nouri of Iran in the final of the Asian Wrestling Championship held in China. But this time he managed to win gold.
