Michigan church attack

US Desk, Delhi Magazine: On Sept 28, 2025, a devastating attack struck the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan. The assailant drove a pickup truck into the building, opened fire on worshipers, and then set the church ablaze.

Authorities report at least 4 people were killed and 8 injured in the attack. Two of the deceased were found in the fire debris, and further searches are ongoing.

Police responded swiftly. Officers arrived within minutes of the emergency call and fatally shot the suspect around 10:33 a.m. EDT, about eight minutes after the attack began. Investigators believe the fire was deliberately set, possibly using gasoline as an accelerant.

Authorities named the shooter as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40 years old, from Burton, Michigan. Law enforcement units, including FBI agents and ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), are taking over parts of the investigation to find motive, check for co-conspirators, and analyze evidence from the scene and suspect’s residence.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), FBI Director Kash Patel wrote:

Local and national leaders have expressed shock and condolences. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said her “heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community” and called violence in places of worship “unacceptable.” Former President Donald Trump described the event as a potential “targeted attack on Christians” and commended the FBI for rapid response.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities continue to examine the remains of the church, the suspect’s background, digital records, and possible motives. More victims or critical evidence may still emerge.
