Fake ENO

City Desk, Delhi Magazine: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully busted a major racket involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit everyday consumer goods across the capital. The operation, which included multiple raids, resulted in the seizure of large quantities of fake ENO antacid sachets and thousands of counterfeit toothpaste tubes, highlighting a serious public health risk to consumers.

Key Raids and Major Seizures

Acting on specific tip-offs, police units targeted an illegal manufacturing site in the Ibrahimpur area. The raid at this location yielded a significant haul, recovering approximately 91,000 fake ENO sachets, along with a substantial amount of raw materials, packaging rolls, and counterfeit brand labels. Two individuals were arrested on the scene.

Investigators confirmed that the seized counterfeit antacids and materials were being prepared for immediate distribution to local markets across Delhi.

In separate, but related operations, additional illegal units manufacturing counterfeit toothpaste were uncovered in other suburbs. Officers recovered thousands of empty tubes, fake caps, specialized packing machinery, and counterfeit wrappers designed to perfectly mimic well-known national and international brands. The sophistication of the fake packaging makes these products extremely difficult for the average consumer to distinguish from genuine items.

Public Health Warning and Harmful Ingredients

Police and brand representatives issued a strong public health warning, stressing the immediate danger posed by these unverified products.

  • Fake Antacids: Ingredients in the counterfeit ENO may be unverified and harmful, potentially causing severe stomach and digestive problems.
  • Counterfeit Toothpaste: Unregulated ingredients in the fake toothpaste pose a risk of serious oral health issues.

The arrested individuals reportedly aimed to maximize illegal profit by using exceptionally cheap raw materials and inferior packaging, sacrificing consumer safety entirely.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Cases have been officially registered under relevant sections of criminal law and trademark protection acts. The police have confirmed that further investigations are underway to meticulously trace the entire supply chain, identify the main financial operators, and locate all distributors involved in the widespread sale of these fake consumer products in Delhi-NCR.
