The Russian vaccine against corona virus infection will yet not be available for children. According to the director of the Gamaleya National Research Center and National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya,, Mr. Alexander Ginzburg, told the reporters on August 4. Vaccination of children is possible only after the completion of a full cycle of tests on adults, so until the year 2020 the Russian Vaccination for COVID-19 won’t be there for children.

“According to Russian law, a vaccine can be tested on children and a new drug can be offered only when it has passed the full cycle of tests on adults,” he said.

Ginzburg added that clinical trials of the vaccine in minors may begin later. On August 1, the Minister of Health of Russia Mikhail Murashko reported that clinical trials of the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Center, have been officially completed. He expressed the hope that the vaccine will be suitable for children, but according to Russian law, after the completion of the third phase of testing, the drug will be allowed to be tested on minors.

Also, the director of the Institute of Translational Medicine and Biotechnology at Sechenov University, Vadim Tarasov, explained that before applying the vaccine to children, preclinical tests are usually carried out – on immature animals, as a result of which a decision is made to use the drug on minors.

He added that the vaccination of children will begin after the completion of the third phase of the trial. Earlier, the head of the Russian Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko said that registration of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus is expected in August.

As noted by Ginzburg, the COVID-19 vaccine is suitable for everyone, except for people with severe chronic diseases of the immune system.
