US imposed sanctions on Myanmar

The US administration has published a decree on sanctions against persons who participated in the military coup in Myanmar, the White House said.

It is emphasized that the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Myanmar poses a threat to US security. The Ministry of Finance together with the Secretary of State will determine who the sanctions are being imposed on. The sanctions will affect people associated with the defense industry, participants in suppression operations and army commanders.

The decree is supposed to impose sanctions for any actions that “undermine” the democratic process in Myanmar. These will include freezing of property and assets held by the United States.
