In the Women’s Day special edition of Delhi Magazine, we would like to introduce you with some of the very inspiring women entrepreneurs. They have not only achieved a lot at a very young age but are also a big motivation to all the women who want to live a life, queen size. Let’s see who are all these successful women, leading their own way and debarring the gender stereotypes.
Bhawna Khanna – Founder of Studio Astrid
One fine evening, when the entrepreneur was returning back home, it hit her that she wants to be more than a person who drafts sections and elevations for someone else’s projects. It was the time when she understood that she wants to build her own company in which she would be challenging herself to come out with extraordinary ideas and unique designs for every client. Bhawna, who did her entire schooling from Ramjas School Anand Parvat, New Delhi is an Architecture graduate from Lingayas University, Faridabad. Just like every young entrepreneur who is starting with a new journey, she had her inhibitions too. Having limited experience, no one to guide her in the field and no resources to start with, she indeed have had a bumpy ride. And, in the course of this journey of many failures, many experiences, she has also achieved a lot. From getting an award of young entrepreneur recognition by Spark Excellence awards in 2018, her work getting featured in Fashion Wave magazine in 2019 and then, Storyofsouls and Delhi Magazine recognizing the entrepreneur for her work in 2021, Architect Bhawna Khanna has come a long way.
Subhashini Ponnappa, Director – HR and Admin, 75F APAC
Subhashini comes with over 17 years of experience in the HR domain with expertise gained in reputed IT companies. Her previous assignment was as Head of HR for Arctern Consulting Pvt Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Volt Information Sciences. Her wide experience includes stints at IDS Next Business Solutions Pvt Ltd, Cisco Video Technology Group and Dimension Data. Subhashini specialises in simplifying Personnel Management and helps companies strike a balance in organizational expectation and employee needs. Subhashini did her PGDM in Human Resource Management from St. Joseph’s College of Business Administration and holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Calcutta University. She is currently pursuing a Post Graduate Degree in Psychology from MSU. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
On a personal front, she is married with two children, is an ardent traveller, DIY enthusiast, nature lover, a philanthropist, and a trainer.
Kavita B. Bedi – Founder and CEO of JBC INC
Kavitta B Bedi, is the founder and CEO of JBC INC (Just Because its Children), where she brings in broadway theatricals from overseas for children and family audiences all across India. The repertoire of shows includes Barney Live, Spiderman Live, Noddy Live, Jungle Book Jive, Geronimo Stilton Live etc. These shows have been done in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Dubai, Singapore etc.
An entrepreneur at heart, she is also an angel investor with investments in Tech Startups across Crowd Funding, Food Tech, Supply Chain, Health Tech and now Ed Tech. An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College and a specialist of Marketing Management from the Times School of Marketing, Kavitta’s corporate career includes heading communications for the British Council in India and being a part of the brand management team at Daewoo Motors. She is a spousal member of Young Presidents Organisation (YPO).
Katherine Ernst Mehta
Katherine Ernst Mehta is the CEO and Founder of Edvanta Consulting, where she works with international high school students across India, Singapore, Indonesia and the UK to help them navigate the US undergraduate admission process, and gain admission to their best fit colleges. Katherine graduated magna cum laude from Kenyon College, Ohio, where she majored in Anthropology, Dance & Drama. She built a career in international education after first coming to India as a student and researcher in 2009. She has also researched and edited Indian art history texts, and coordinated semester-long academic programs and excursions for American college students in India through the School for International Training (SIT Study Abroad).
Katherine is a member of the International Association for College Admissions Counseling. In the past, she has served as a College Essay Counselor for Ethan Sawyer (aka The College Essay Guy), and helped guide low-income students through the college application and essay writing process through the Matchlighters Scholarship program. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Welcome Association, a non-profit organisation dedicated to serving and connecting the American expat community in New Delhi, India.
