New Delhi, April 15, 2025 — In a promising development for the safety of the national capital, Delhi has recorded a significant decline in overall crime cases in the first quarter of 2025, marking a considerable improvement compared to the same period in the past two years. According to the latest data released by Delhi Police, street crimes such as snatching and robbery have seen a sharp drop, alongside notable reductions in rape and kidnapping cases.

Street Crime Sees Major Dip

Snatching cases, which had been on a steady rise over the past two years, have now declined dramatically. In 2023, Delhi registered 1,812 snatching incidents, which climbed to 1,925 in 2024. However, the first quarter of 2025 saw only 1,199 such cases — a reduction of 33.82% from 2023 and 37.69% from 2024.

Similarly, robbery cases dropped from 424 in 2024 and 375 in 2023 to 315 in 2025, reflecting a 16% decrease from 2023 and a 25.7% decrease from 2024.

Drop in Crimes Against Women

The city has also reported a welcome decrease in crimes against women. Rape cases have gone down significantly, with only 70 cases registered in the first quarter of 2025, compared to 122 cases in the same period of 2023.

Kidnapping cases too showed a positive trend. 360 kidnapping cases were registered in early 2025, compared to 393 cases in 2024, showing an encouraging reduction.

Police Credit Patrolling, Surveillance for Improvement

A senior Delhi Police officer attributed this downward trend to enhanced night patrolling, strict law enforcement, and wider surveillance coverage across the city. “There has been a total reduction of 1.8% in overall crime cases over the past two years,” the officer said. “While this is a positive indicator, it’s crucial to keep monitoring these numbers closely.”

According to the officer, heightened surveillance in sensitive areas, combined with frequent night patrols, has made it increasingly difficult for criminals to operate. This increased visibility of law enforcement has not only reduced street crime but has also acted as a deterrent against crimes targeting women.

Awareness Campaigns and Safety Initiatives

Delhi Police also credited various awareness programs and safety initiatives for the decline in crimes against women. These efforts, aimed at educating women about their rights and safety measures, have played a crucial role in fostering a sense of security among residents.

A Step Forward, But Vigilance Still Key

Despite the promising statistics, police officials caution that continued efforts are essential to maintain and further this downward trend. “The decline is encouraging, but we must remain vigilant. Criminals adapt quickly, and law enforcement must stay a step ahead,” said the senior official.

As Delhi moves toward becoming a safer city, the police emphasize the need for sustained efforts from both law enforcement agencies and the public to ensure the capital remains secure and resilient against crime.
