In a major move, the Delhi government has taken strict action against private schools for increasing fees without permission. The education department, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has sent show cause notices to 11 private schools, including the well-known DPS Dwarka.
This is the first time such strong action has been taken against private schools for fee-related issues. According to the government, the CM acted quickly after receiving reports of unauthorized fee hikes by these schools.
More Schools Under the Radar
The government is also preparing to take action against 10 more private schools. Initial audits have found serious irregularities in these schools as well. Show cause notices may soon be sent to them too.
Officials have made it clear that no private school can increase fees without getting approval from the education department. Any school that breaks this rule will face strict action.
Political Reaction
Former Delhi CM and current Leader of Opposition, Atishi, has criticized the BJP over this issue. She wrote a letter to CM Rekha Gupta, demanding an immediate stop to fee hikes. Atishi stated that no school should charge increased fees unless their financial accounts are properly audited. She also suggested that fee hikes should only be allowed in justified cases, and even then, only by 1-2 percent.
This move by the government is being seen as a strong step towards protecting parents from unfair financial pressure.
