It is being told that 4 PhD scholars of Jamia Islamia have accused a professor of sexual harassment. After which that professor has been suspended. Also, orders have been given to investigate the allegations made against him. After this case, a scholar has also canceled his admission.
Allegation of sexual harassment
The suspended professor has been banned from teaching in any class till the investigation is done. He has been asked to mark his presence in the Chief Proctor’s office till the next order of the university. 4 girl students alleged that the professor has used abusive language against them during the lecture and also made obscene gestures.
University suspended him
The acting Vice Chancellor of the university Mohammad Shakeel, using his emergency powers, ordered the suspension of the professor and taking the matter very seriously, handed over the responsibility of investigating it to the internal complaints committee of the university.
The university said in the suspension order, “4 PhD scholars at the Jawaharlal Nehru Study Center of Jamia Millia Islamia have accused the professor of sexual harassment, non-cooperation, insulting behavior, indiscipline and use of rude language and have lodged a complaint.” After which the professor has been suspended.
Student’s admission cancelled
The administration had issued the suspension order on July 16. The university order said that a student has also got her PhD admission cancelled due to such conduct of the professor. The order states that the suspended professor will not be able to leave the city without the approval of the competent authority during his suspension period.
