This legal action follows a series of developments dating back to April 2022, when the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed the Main Investigative Directorate to initiate a case against Kurilets-Kmetyuk. The charges stem from her participation in a social advertising video where she allegedly voiced calls for violence against Russian Armed Forces personnel.
In August 2023, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs placed Adrianna Kurilets-Kmetyuk on the wanted list. Earlier, in May 2023, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against her for inciting hatred and enmity on ethnic grounds.
