sita kumari sitamarhi fire

On 17 April 2026, a heartbreaking incident took place in the Pupri area of Sitamarhi district, Bihar. A 10-year-old girl, Choti Kumari, lost her life while attempting to save her father from a house fire. Her father, Vinod Kumar, aged 50, had been paralyzed for a long time and was unable to move or walk on his own. The family lived in a modest mud house with a tiled roof in the Old State Bank locality of Pupri.

On the day of the incident, Choti Kumari was cooking inside the house when a fire suddenly broke out. It is believed that the fire was caused by a gas leak from a cylinder. Some reports also suggest that a container of petrol inside the house caused the flames to spread rapidly. As the fire started, Choti managed to escape the house safely along with other family members. However, she soon realized that her father was still trapped inside, lying helplessly on the bed due to his condition.

Without hesitation, the young girl rushed back into the burning house to rescue him. The flames and smoke were intense, making it extremely dangerous. Neighbors tried to help and attempted to enter the house, but the fire had already spread too much. The fire brigade also arrived at the scene, but delays caused by traffic in the market area slowed down the rescue efforts. By the time the fire was brought under control, it was too late. Both Choti Kumari and her father, Vinod Kumar, had lost their lives due to severe burns and smoke inhalation.

At just 10 years of age, Choti Kumari displayed extraordinary bravery and love for her father. Her decision to return to the burning house, despite the danger, reflects her selfless courage and deep emotional bond. This tragic story has moved people across the country. It stands as a powerful reminder of the strength of familial love and the incredible courage that even young children can show in times of crisis.

Delhi Magazine salutes the bravery of Choti Kumari. Her sacrifice will always be remembered.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. May they find strength to cope with this immense loss.

Om Shanti. May the souls of Choti Kumari and Vinod Kumar rest in peace.
