Santiago Abascal

Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s right-wing political party VOX, addressed a large gathering of supporters in Palma de Mallorca on October 24, as the country prepares for the November 29 general elections.

The rally took place near the Cathedral of Mallorca, where hundreds of supporters gathered to hear Abascal speak. The event was part of his political tour of the Balearic Islands, which also included visits to Menorca and Ibiza.

Abascal called on voters to give VOX a strong mandate in the upcoming election. He said winning the election and becoming Spain’s next prime minister was difficult but possible.

Abascal Warns of Possible Electoral Problems

During his speech, Abascal urged supporters to remain alert until election day. He accused the government of potentially resorting to violence or electoral fraud, although he did not establish evidence of fraud in the remarks reported by news agencies. Abascal’s political campaign reflects wider changes in European politics, where several conservative parties are seeking greater public support. He also criticised the government led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and called for political change. His comments came amid rising political tensions ahead of the November vote.

Security Measures at the Rally

The gathering in Palma took place under heightened police security. Unlike a VOX event in Menorca the previous day, the rally in Palma proceeded without major incidents at the venue.

Tensions were reported later when some VOX supporters moved towards a housing protest camp in Palma. Police officers were deployed to keep the groups apart and prevent possible clashes.

VOX Seeks Strong Support in the November Vote

The November 29 election is a major opportunity for VOX to increase its political influence. Abascal has urged voters to support his party’s agenda, which includes stricter immigration policies, deregulation and giving national priorities greater importance.
