anand kumar super 30 in metro

New Delhi: A routine journey on the Delhi Metro turned into a memorable encounter for renowned mathematician and educator Anand Kumar, the founder of Super 30, when he met a government employee who was still pursuing his passion for mathematics and preparing for competitive examinations.

Sharing the experience on social media, Anand Kumar recalled travelling towards Central Secretariat when, amid the crowded Metro, a passenger offered him a seat and started a conversation.

The passenger introduced himself as Mukul Upadhyay. According to Anand Kumar’s post, Mukul has already cleared the SSC examination and is currently working in a government job. However, despite securing employment, his journey of learning has not stopped.

A Government Employee Still Chasing a Bigger Goal

During their conversation, Mukul reportedly spoke about his deep and long-standing interest in Mathematics.

He also told Anand Kumar about his experience with Super Infinity, the digital education initiative associated with Anand Kumar, and how it encouraged him to return to the fundamentals of mathematics and study the subject in greater depth.

Mukul is now preparing for the SSC examination once again, this time with the ambition of performing even better and securing a position of his choice.

For Anand Kumar, who has spent decades working in mathematics education, the interaction carried a special meaning.

His educational journey through Super 30 has traditionally focused on helping talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for the highly competitive IIT entrance examinations. Super 30 was started in 2002 and became widely known for its residential coaching model for selected students.

From Super 30 to Super Infinity

The encounter also reflects the larger idea behind Anand Kumar’s recent educational initiative, Super Infinity.

Launched in 2026, Super Infinity aims to take mathematics education beyond the limitations of a physical classroom through digital learning. The initiative offers online mathematics education and uses techniques such as storytelling, animation and music to make mathematical concepts more accessible and engaging.

Unlike the limited reach of a programme that can directly teach only a selected group of students, the digital initiative is designed to reach learners across locations and backgrounds.

That makes Mukul’s experience particularly significant: he is not a school student just beginning his academic journey, but a working professional who has chosen to continue learning and preparing for a better opportunity.

Anand Kumar Finds Joy in a Student’s Continued Journey

For Anand Kumar, the meeting appeared to be more than just a chance conversation.

The educator expressed happiness that the educational content associated with his work was being used not only by students preparing for IITs but also by aspirants preparing for SSC and other competitive examinations.

The interaction also reinforced a message that Anand Kumar has often emphasised through his work: education is not limited by age, employment status or circumstances.

Mukul already has a government job, yet he has chosen to sit down with his books again, strengthen his mathematical foundation and prepare for another examination.

A Chance Meeting, But a Bigger Message

What began as an unexpected conversation inside a crowded Delhi Metro eventually became an inspiring reminder of the value of continuous learning.

For Mukul, the journey represents the desire to improve even after achieving professional stability. For Anand Kumar, it offered a glimpse of how the reach of his mathematics-teaching efforts is extending beyond the traditional classroom.

Anand Kumar’s own career has been built around making mathematics and competitive-exam preparation accessible to students who might otherwise struggle to find such opportunities. His work with Super 30 brought him national and international recognition, and he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2023 for his contribution to education.
