Ajay Jadeja Hits Out at BBC: “Focus on Pakistani Grooming Gangs in Britain Before Reporting on India”

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has criticised the BBC over its coverage of India, arguing that the British broadcaster should pay greater attention to serious issues within the United Kingdom, including grooming gangs.

Jadeja made the remarks in a post on X, where he said that the BBC should be concerned about “Pakistani grooming gangs in the UK” rather than remaining focused on India. His comments came amid continuing debate in Britain over the handling of historical child sexual exploitation cases involving organised groups.

The UK has faced major grooming gang scandals in places including Rotherham, Rochdale and Telford. The issue has again received national attention following the 2025 Casey audit and the subsequent decision by the British government to establish a national statutory inquiry into grooming gangs.

The Casey audit said there had been a failure to properly examine the ethnicity of perpetrators in some areas. At the same time, it cautioned that available national ethnicity data was insufficient to draw definitive conclusions about the ethnic background of perpetrators across all group-based child sexual exploitation cases.

Jadeja’s comments specifically referred to Pakistani grooming gangs in the UK and accused the BBC of being too focused on India. His post has brought renewed attention to the debate over how British media organisations cover sensitive issues involving child sexual exploitation, ethnicity and immigration.

The former cricketer’s remarks have also sparked discussion on social media about whether international media organisations should scrutinise domestic problems with the same intensity with which they report on developments in other countries.

The BBC has previously reported extensively on grooming gang scandals in Britain, including the Rotherham scandal and the national debate surrounding the issue. The broadcaster has also covered the British government’s decision to establish a national inquiry into grooming gangs.
