Sakshi Malik Wins India’s First Medal at Rio Olympics 2016

Sports Desk, Delhi Magazine: Congratulations to India on winning its first medal at the Rio Olympics 2016, thanks to Rohtak’s daughter, Sakshi Malik. She remained confident about winning the medal until the very end, as she later expressed.

She defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova after trailing 0–5 in the first period of the bronze medal match. With this victory, she became the fourth Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari, Mary Kom, and Saina Nehwal.

She jumped onto the mat with a big smile on her face after her glorious victory. Her coach, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, then lifted her as she celebrated with the Indian tricolour draped around her.

She achieved this victory despite falling behind 0–5 after the first period in the do-or-die bout.

She later expressed her determination by saying, “Aakhir tak dimag mein tha medal tera hai.”
