India Desk, Delhi Magazine: In a heartfelt tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s younger Sahibzaade, Baba Fateh Singh Ji, and elder Sahibzaade, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji, Sikhs have organized food and drink services along major highways.

On NH 44 and NH 152D, travelers are being offered milk, tea, and other food items at pandals set up every 2-3 kilometers. These services, lasting for four days, aim to provide relief to travelers while honoring the courage and sacrifice of the Sahibzaade.

The Sahibzaade’s Story of Supreme Sacrifice

In 1705, during the siege of Anandpur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, his family, and his followers faced severe persecution by the Mughal forces and their allies. Under immense pressure, the Guru agreed to vacate the fort, but the Mughals betrayed their promise of safe passage. During the chaotic retreat, the Guru’s family was separated. His younger sons, Baba Fateh Singh Ji (aged 7) and Baba Zorawar Singh Ji (aged 9), along with their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji, were captured by Gangu, a trusted servant who betrayed them for a reward.

The three were handed over to the governor of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, who imprisoned them in the freezing Thanda Burj (Cold Tower). The young Sahibzaade were presented with a choice: to embrace Islam and live a life of luxury or face execution. Despite their tender ages, they demonstrated incredible courage and resolutely refused to renounce their faith.

Infuriated by their defiance, Wazir Khan sentenced them to death by being bricked alive into a wall. As the construction progressed, the children recited hymns from Guru Granth Sahib and remained steadfast. When they were no longer able to breathe, the wall was torn down, and the Sahibzaade were killed.

Their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji, who had been witnessing their ordeal from the tower, passed away due to the unbearable grief.

Legacy of Bravery and Faith

The martyrdom of Baba Fateh Singh Ji and Baba Zorawar Singh Ji is remembered as one of the most poignant sacrifices in Sikh history. Their unwavering faith, bravery, and commitment to their principles continue to inspire millions. The Sahibzaade’s sacrifice is a testament to the strength of character and devotion to righteousness, even in the face of death.

A Gesture of Remembrance

The food services on highways reflect the Sikh tradition of seva (selfless service), honoring the Sahibzaade’s legacy. Travelers passing through NH 44 and NH 152D have expressed immense gratitude for the hospitality and generosity. This initiative not only keeps the memory of the Sahibzaade alive but also spreads the values of compassion and community spirit.
