India Desk, Delhi Magazine: In a significant advancement for India’s defense capabilities, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully tested an indigenous ballistic interceptor missile. The test took place this evening, showcasing the nation’s growing strength in missile technology.

The Prithvi-2 missile, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, was launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Balasore, Odisha at 4:25 PM. Shortly after, an interceptor missile was fired from Abdul Kalam Island. The interceptor successfully intercepted and destroyed the Prithvi-2 missile as it entered the Bay of Bengal, marking a critical achievement for DRDO.
In preparation for the test, 10,581 residents from approximately 10 villages around the Chandipur test site were evacuated and housed in four temporary camps. The evacuees were provided with food, beverages, and entertainment, along with compensation for any inconvenience caused.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO’s accomplishment, stating, “Today, DRDO has once again demonstrated our robust ballistic missile defense capabilities.” DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat also extended his congratulations to the entire DRDO team for the successful test.
This successful test underscores India’s advancements in missile technology, reinforcing its position on the global defense map.
