Haryana Desk, Delhi Magazine: A wave of grief and pride has swept through the village of Koth Kalan in Hisar district as the community mourns the loss of 23-year-old Amardeep Sandhu, affectionately known as Hardeep. The young soldier was martyred on duty in Jammu and Kashmir, succumbing to his injuries in a hospital in Akhnoor on Tuesday.

Amardeep, who joined the army just two years ago in 2022, was stationed at the Dumi Malpur military camp in rural Jammu. Tragically, his life was cut short by a bullet wound while he was on duty. Despite the best efforts of the medical team at the military hospital in Akhnoor, he was declared dead during treatment.

The news of his untimely demise has cast a pall of sorrow over Koth Kalan. Villagers, though heartbroken, are filled with immense pride for Amardeep’s ultimate sacrifice for the nation. His body was brought back to his native village on Thursday, July 19, and he was cremated with full state honors, a solemn ceremony that drew the entire community together in mourning and respect.

Amardeep’s father, Om, shared the devastating news, reflecting on his son’s short yet impactful life. Amardeep had recently married, just seven months ago, and was building a life with his new bride. This personal loss is felt deeply by his family and the entire village.

The village of Koth Kalan stands united in grief, honoring their fallen hero. The silence that now blankets the village is a testament to the profound loss felt by all who knew him. Amardeep Sandhu’s bravery and dedication will forever be remembered, his sacrifice serving as a poignant reminder of the cost of peace and security.
