During his visit, PM Modi will participate in the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit with President Vladimir Putin. This summit, postponed for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marks the first meeting between the leaders since 2019. The Prime Minister announced his arrival on his X account, noting the significance of the talks amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized India’s desire to play a collaborative role in fostering a peaceful and stable region.

Private Dinner and Summit Talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin will host a private dinner for PM Modi on Monday night, setting the stage for formal talks scheduled for July 9. The summit aims to explore and expand bilateral ties across various sectors, including trade, energy, and defense.
Historic Visit and Future Engagements
This visit is particularly notable as it is PM Modi’s first trip to Russia since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. It is also his first visit to Russia since 2019 and his first bilateral foreign visit in his third term. Following his engagements in Russia, PM Modi will depart for Austria on July 9, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 40 years.
Strengthening Strategic Partnership
Before departing for Russia, PM Modi highlighted the importance of the India-Russia relationship, which has grown significantly over the past decade. He mentioned key areas of cooperation, including energy, security, trade, investment, health, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people contact. “I am looking forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing views on various regional and global issues,” PM Modi stated.
