Delhi CM Kejriwal – all the states have to work together

At the same time, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that the evacuation of people from low-lying areas around the river would begin once the Yamuna touched the 206-metre mark. He assured the people that according to experts, a flood situation is not likely to arise in the national capital. He also added-  Our system was not made for such rain. At this time all the states have to work together.

After holding a meeting on incessant rains and rising water level of Yamuna, Kejriwal said the government is closely monitoring the situation and is fully prepared to deal with it. “Unpredictable rains have created problems for the people and Delhi’s system was not able to cope up with it. Every year after the rains, some areas get flooded and the water recedes within a few hours, but 153 mm of rain is unpredictable. This happened about 40 years ago.

The chief minister said he was in touch with the Central Water Commission and claimed that weather predictions indicated that though there would be more rain, it would not be heavy. “There might have been some potholes on the roads due to rain. These will be filled with stones to prevent any untoward incident. We have also ordered an inquiry into the incidents of road subsidence. The area under New Delhi Municipal Council, which is a VVIP area, has been waterlogged. We have asked them (NDMC) to solve the problems.
