NCR Desk, Delhi Magaine: In a concerning incident, 339 residents, including children, of Eco Village-2 Society in Noida’s Thana Bisrakh area reported severe stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea after consuming contaminated water. Health officials were alerted on Tuesday, prompting the Health Department to send a team of doctors to the site. Water samples have been taken for testing.
Six children were hospitalized due to their symptoms. During an inspection, authorities found mosquito larvae in the society’s basement, leading to a fine of ₹10,000 being imposed on the society.
The District Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, noted that the illness reports began around 12:30 AM on Monday. Immediate action was taken by the Medical Superintendent of the Primary Medical Health Center in Bisrakh, Dr. Sachindra Mishra, who deployed a team of three doctors to assess the situation. A medical camp was set up in the society, where 339 individuals were found to be ill—330 suffering from stomach-related issues and nine with fever.
The Chief Medical Officer reported that the medical team provided treatment and distributed essential medicines and ORS packets to the affected residents. Further inspections by the District Malaria Officer and the Superintendent of the Community Health Center of Bisrakh revealed water stagnation in the basement, which contained larvae, leading to the society being fined.
Residents allege that the contamination may have occurred due to chemicals used in cleaning the society’s water tank, which was last cleaned two days before the incident. This large residential society in Noida Extension, consisting of about 20 multi-storey towers with around 150 flats each, is now under scrutiny as water samples are being tested from the affected towers to confirm the cause of the contamination.
