Amstelveen, Netherlands: India defeated Pakistan 5-3 in a thrilling match at the 2026 Hockey World Cup on Wednesday. The much-awaited match saw both teams fight hard, but India stayed ahead and secured a place in the next round.

India started the match strongly. Captain Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring through a penalty corner in the first quarter. Soon after, Abhishek scored from open play to make it 2-0.

Harmanpreet then scored again from a penalty corner, giving India a 3-0 lead. Pakistan finally responded with a goal from Hannan Shahid, but India quickly regained control.

Abhishek scored his second goal of the match to make the score 4-1. Pakistan continued to fight back and Sufyan Khan reduced the gap with a penalty-corner goal.

India did not allow Pakistan to complete the comeback. Hardik Singh converted a penalty stroke and put India 5-2 ahead. Pakistan scored once more through Hannan Shahid, but India defended well in the final minutes.

The final score was India 5, Pakistan 3.

The victory was especially important because of the long-standing rivalry between the two teams. India once again showed its strong record against Pakistan and continued its unbeaten run in recent meetings.

With this win, India moved into the next round of the Hockey World Cup, while Pakistan’s campaign came to an end.
