Bhutan King Visits Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 on Special Invitation of PM Modi

Mahakumbh Desk, Delhi Magazine: His Majesty The King of Bhutan arrived in Lucknow today to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited him for this special occasion. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the King at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. Later, the Chief Minister met with the King to strengthen India-Bhutan ties. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel hosted a dinner in his honor.

The Maha Kumbh Mela happens every 12 years and is the world’s largest religious gathering. This year, a rare celestial alignment, occurring once every 144 years, makes it even more special.
During his visit from February 3-4, 2025, the King traveled to Prayagraj with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. At Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, he participated in rituals. His visit highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural ties between Hinduism and Buddhism.

The King also prayed at the sacred Akshyavata, the “indestructible Banyan tree,” and the historic Hanuman Temple. His visit showed Bhutan’s deep respect for India’s spiritual heritage and strengthened India-Bhutan relations.
The King thanked Prime Minister Modi, the Indian government, and Uttar Pradesh officials for their warm hospitality and special arrangements.
His visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela further strengthened the historic friendship between India and Bhutan. Their shared spiritual and cultural ties continue to bring both nations closer.
