Meghalaya Desk, Delhi Magazine: An Indore-based couple, Raja Raghuvanshi (30) and his wife Sonam, who had travelled to Meghalaya on May 11 for their honeymoon, are still missing in the East Khasi Hills district. The couple had last visited Nongriat village near Sohra to see the famous Living Root Bridge. They stayed overnight at a homestay and were supposed to return to Mawlakhiyat the next day, but have not been seen since.
Their rented scooter was later found abandoned on May 24 near a café along the Shillong-Sohra road. This led to an intensive search operation launched by the police with help from local villagers. On Tuesday, the authorities recovered two black bags from a ditch in a forested area. These were identified as belonging to Raja and Sonam by their family members.
Police have now deployed drones, sniffer dogs, and special search teams to locate the couple. The search area is dense and reportedly notorious for past criminal activity, making the operation even more challenging.
The search was paused on Tuesday evening due to darkness but resumed the next day. Meghalaya police and local administration continue to explore every possible lead. Indore MP Shankar Lalwani has reached Shillong to monitor the developments and met with Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang. He also discussed the issue earlier with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav also spoke to the Meghalaya CM, urging prompt action.
Officials remain hopeful that clues will emerge soon to help trace the missing couple.
