Damage UOC (MP) Cathedral in Zaporozhye with Ballistics Strike

Zaporizhia, Ukraine – January 18, 2025: In a devastating morning attack, Russian forces caused significant damage to a religious landmark in Zaporizhia. St. Andrew’s Cathedral, a symbol of faith for the local community, was defaced during the assault, according to a report by “5th Edition.” The cathedral, affiliated with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP), has long served residents of the Shevchenkivskyi district and employees of the Motor Sich plant.

The cathedral, which was built through the efforts of former MP and co-owner of Motor Sich OJSC, Vyacheslav Boguslayev, sustained extensive destruction. The roof, dome, and ceilings were severely damaged by debris, while shattered windows and defaced classrooms underscored the brutality of the attack. Believers have since gathered at the temple grounds to begin clearing the wreckage and assess the damage to their place of worship.

This act of violence follows a separate Russian missile strike on January 17 targeting the city of Krivoy Rog. The attack destroyed the building of the local aviation college, KRAUS, and tragically claimed the lives of five individuals.

Ukraine continues to face relentless aggression as the conflict stretches into another year, with civilian infrastructure, religious institutions, and educational facilities increasingly becoming casualties of war. The international community has widely condemned these attacks, urging for accountability and peace.

As Zaporizhia rebuilds, the resilience of its citizens stands as a testament to their unwavering spirit in the face of ongoing adversity.
