Political Desk, Delhi Magazine: In a recent meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), Sonia Gandhi, the chief of the Congress Parliamentary Party, urged party leaders to remain vigilant and avoid complacency despite favorable conditions following the recent Lok Sabha elections. Addressing the gathering on Wednesday, she emphasized the need for unity and hard work as the party gears up for upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and potentially Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi launched a sharp critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing the Modi government of continuing its divisive policies. “Instead of learning a lesson from the setback in the Lok Sabha elections, the government is still following its policy of spreading division and fear,” she stated.
Sonia Gandhi also expressed deep concern over recent developments, including the controversy surrounding the government order to display the names of shopkeepers on the route of Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh. She welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention but warned that it offers only temporary relief. She also criticized the government’s decision to allow bureaucracy participation in RSS activities, describing the RSS as the ideological foundation of the BJP.
The meeting began with a moment of silence in honor of those killed in the recent landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, and the tragic drowning of three students in Delhi. In her address, Sonia Gandhi also expressed her condolences to the affected families.
Reflecting on the economic situation, she criticized the Union Budget, alleging that it ignored the major demands of farmers and youth. “Despite the government’s claims, there is widespread disappointment. The central leadership is in a state of confusion as families across the country are devastated by rising unemployment and inflation,” she remarked.
Sonia Gandhi also highlighted concerns over national security, pointing to recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing unrest in Manipur. She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to address these issues adequately.
The meeting concluded with the passage of a resolution authorizing Sonia Gandhi to appoint CPP office bearers, emphasizing the importance of unity and proactive participation in parliamentary activities.
