Heavy rain falling in Moscow city center on July 21, 2025

By Svetlana Petrova, Moscow Desk, Delhi Magazine: : Moscow and the wider Central Russian regions are preparing for a significantly wet start to the work week on Monday, July 21, 2025. Leading meteorologist Evgeny Tishkovets from the respected “Phobos” weather center has issued a warning for heavy and persistent rainfall across the capital and surrounding areas.

According to Tishkovets, Moscow alone could see up to 33 mm of precipitation today. To put this in perspective, this single day’s rainfall represents almost 40% of the entire July monthly norm of 84 mm for the city. The Moscow region can expect slightly less, with up to 25 mm predicted.

“The culprit behind this intense weather is a powerful cyclone moving in from the west, whose center will be spinning directly over Smolensk,” explained the Phobos specialist. “This meteorological setup means cloudy conditions and substantial, widespread rain will dominate Moscow and the region throughout Monday, with isolated thunderstorms also possible.”

Looking at temperatures, mercury levels are expected to remain cool, ranging from +19 to +22 degrees Celsius during the daytime. This is notably below the seasonal climatic norm for July. Winds will be south-easterly and gusty, reaching speeds of up to 9 meters per second. Atmospheric pressure is forecast to drop to 739 mm Hg.

Residents should be prepared for continued wet conditions on Tuesday as well, though the intensity of the rainfall is expected to lessen. Tishkovets further advised that the capital should not anticipate a single day without rain for the remainder of this workweek.
