India Desk, Delhi Magazine: A large number of Punjab farmers gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday to protest against the Center and press for their demands, including equitable distribution of water and implementation of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. Five farmer unions of Punjab staged the protest amid heavy police presence. A delegation of farmers also submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the concerned officials.
Jarnail Singh, a protesting farmer from Tarn Taran district of Punjab, said that our demand is the same. There is a need for better distribution of water for the farmers and the state. He said that all the water is going to Rajasthan and Delhi. What will Punjabi farmers do? The government has done nothing for MSP on wheat and pulses. Our families are suffering.
