Bollywood Desk, Delhi Magazine: Actress Huma Qureshi will play the role of India’s first home chef Tarla Dalal in the upcoming biopic “Tarla” directed by Piyush Gupta. The film is jointly produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari.

Talking about her decision to make a film on the life of late chef Tarla Dalal, producer Ashwini Iyer Tiwari said that the story of Tarla is much more than just being an iconic chef. This is the story of a working mom who single-handedly changed things. Vegetarian cooking in India has paved the way for many such home chefs and startups to fulfill their dreams.
Who is/was Tarla Dalal?
Tarla Dalal was an Indian food writer, chef, cookbook author and cooking show host. She was the first Indian to be awarded the Padma Shri award in the culinary skills category in 2007. She has left behind a legacy of over 17,000 cuisines.Tarla Dalal, who hosted popular TV shows like ‘The Tarla Dalal Show’ and ‘Cook It Up with Tarla Dalal’, had authored over 100 books on food ingredients and recipes. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 77.
It was Tarla Dalal who ran the largest Indian food website and also published Cooking and More magazine. She single-handedly changed the face of vegetarian cooking in India. At the age of 12, he started helping his mother in cooking. When she went abroad after marriage, she remembered a lot about the food at home. Then Tarla started reading different books and then tried 2-3 recipes daily. After 9 years of hard work, he started making more than one dish. In 1966, Tarla Dalal was suggested by her friends to start a cooking class and then her husband Nalin asked Tarla Dalal to write a cookbook. Now people are desperate to see the life and success story of Tarla Dalal on screen.
