International Desk, Delhi Magazine: Violence between Israel and Palestine seems to be erupting once again. The reason is the Jerusalem flag march carried out by the Israelis. On Tuesday, June 15, Jews have announced a flag march. In this, Jews will dance and sing with the Israeli flag in their hands, reach the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, then they will go through the Muslim populated area to the Western Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

hamas leaderThe flag march was supposed to take place in May, but was then postponed as violence erupted between Palestine-Israel. This was not allowed even on 10 June, but the outgoing Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu has approved this controversial Jerusalem march on the way.

Tension between Palestine and Israel increases during this march, which is taken out every year, but this time the possibility of violence is more because in May there was a war-like situation between the two countries for several days and violence increased by 262. More people had died. In addition, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas has announced that it will fire rockets if the Jerusalem march is taken out.

Why is the Jerusalem March held?
Israel won a six-day war with Arab countries in 1967. After this, East Jerusalem was occupied by Israel. Excited Jews hold a march every year in memory of this victory. The Jerusalem March is traditionally celebrated on the 28th of Iyar (Jewish month) according to the Jewish calendar.

It falls on a different day every year. This year it was to be held on May 9-10, but on May 10, violence broke out between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police in the Sheikh Jarrah area near Temple Mount. On the same day, Hamas fired rockets from Gaza towards Jerusalem and a new conflict broke out between Israel and the Palestinians. This halted the Jerusalem march halfway.

Why does the Muslim population oppose this march?
Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel, home to about 9.5 million people. Most of them are Jews, but the majority of the population of East Jerusalem is Muslim of Arab origin. The march that the Jews take out passes through the Muslim population in the middle of East Jerusalem. In 1967, the Muslim countries were badly defeated in the six-day war, which these people see as their humiliation.  And the marching Jews throw stones at the people. Due to which situations of tension are created. Violence broke out during a flag march on May 10. After this the conflict between Hamas and Israel started. 12 Israeli civilians and more than 250 Palestinians were killed in the 11-day violence.

The Jews wanted to pass this march through East Jerusalem again on June 10, but the Israeli police did not allow it. Now under the agreement with the police, this march will reach Damascus Gate via Sultan Suleiman Road and then proceed to the Western Wall. A large population of Arab Muslims oppose the Israeli flag march and consider it an act of provocation by Israel.

Hamas said – Arab Muslims should take to the streets against the march
Hamas has once again warned of attacks if the Jews take out a march on June 15. Hamas has said that if Israel does this victory march in Jerusalem, it will launch attacks again. In response to the Jerusalem march, Hamas has said that Muslims of Arab origin should also come out on the streets in Jerusalem.

In its statement, Hamas said, “Tuesday (15 June) will be a day to strengthen our relationship with the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
This will be the day of our anger and struggle against Jewish occupation. Show Allah and your people what you will do on this day and be the strongest sword to defend Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa.’
