FSSAI Conducts Street Food Vendor Training Programme in Varanasi Under PM SVANidhi Scheme

Varanasi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (UPFSDA), organised a Street Food Vendor Training Programme in Varanasi yesterday. The initiative was conducted under the Lok Kalyan Mela as part of the PM SVANidhi Scheme, with a focus on enhancing hygiene and safety standards in street food.

The training was held under FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) initiative, aiming to create awareness among street food vendors about good hygiene and manufacturing practices. Vendors were trained on maintaining cleanliness, safe food handling, and compliance with food safety norms to ensure consumer health and trust.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Shri U. S. Dhyani, Executive Director (FSSAI), Smt. Isha Kalia, Joint Secretary (MoHUA), and Ms. Garima Kapoor, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance, along with other dignitaries.

FSSAI emphasised that such programmes are vital to empower street food vendors with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and hygienic food to the public, supporting both livelihood and public health.

Alongside this update, FSSAI also announced the upcoming Global Food Regulatory Summit (GFRS) 2025, highlighting its continued journey “from success to significance.” After delivering two landmark editions, FSSAI is preparing for the next big moment in global food safety. Registrations for the event are now open at https://wfi.reg.eventstrat.ai/gfrs.
