Delhi- Magazine, NCR Desk, A Delhi court convicted AAP MLA Somnath Bharti in a Sept., 2016 case for assaulting security staff of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and destroying public property. The judge sentenced him to 2 years in prison was upheld by the judge.
His appeal was partially rejected. Somnath Bharti was detained soon after the sentencing. Somnath Bharti was sentenced to two years imprisonment and one lakh fine by the Magistrate Court of Rouse Avenue Court. Bharti challenged the decision of the Magistrate Court of the Rouse and Aneyu courts.
What is the matter?
According to the prosecution, on September 9, 2016, Somnath Bharti, along with around 300 others, dropped a boundary wall from the JCB at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The court convicted the MLA for various offenses including sections 323 (voluntarily injuring), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to prevent a government servant from discharging his duty) and 147 (riot).
