In fact, the Bandar Diamond Block was traced between 2005 and 2011. After that, in 2012, a letter of intent (LOI) was given to Rio Tinto of Australia for a mining lease of 954 hectares. Although Rio Tinto has received several approvals, she walked out of the project in 2017. After this the project was returned to the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Blocks auctioned in 2019

The block was auctioned in the year 2019. Many companies took part in this. In the block, the Madhya Pradesh government received a bid of 30.05 per cent revenue share. LOI was issued to the highest bidder on 19th December 2019, Essel. In order to reduce the total emissions to the environment, however, the mining lease of 364 hectares was reduced by reducing the area of 954 hectares. It contains 34 million carats of diamond. It is estimated that 3 million carats of rough diamonds will be found here every year.

India will be among the 10 largest crude diamond producing countries in the world

With this project, India will be among the 10 largest crude diamond producing countries in the world. Once commissioned, it will be Asia’s largest diamond-producing mine and one of the world’s 15 largest diamond-producing mines. This project will generate employment. This will give a boost to self-reliant India. 2,500 crore will be spent to develop this project.

Socially and economically backward district

Chhatarpur district is a socially and economically backward district, according to which this project is considered very good. The diamonds from the project will be auctioned first in the state of Madhya Pradesh as per the terms of the LOI. The Madhya Pradesh government is also setting up an auction center for diamonds in the state. Industries like diamond cutting, polishing and jewelry making will be developed in this.

No village in 364 hectare area

There is no village in the 364 hectare area of this project. An advance payment of Rs 275 crore will be made to the state government before giving the mining lease to the company. Out of this, payment of Rs 27.5 crore has already been made. Along with this, Rs 200 crore will also be given to the government for the cost of land etc. Since the block was auctioned at a revenue share price of 30.05 per cent, the government would get Rs 28,000 crore from it.

382 hectares of forest land

The project has 382 hectares of forest land which is only 0.25% of the total forest of Chhatarpur. Here only 1 tree out of every 400 trees will be affected by this project. So here the company will plant 3.83 lakh trees while the number of affected trees will be only 2.15 lakh. The plan to plant it will start before the trees are affected.

The Chief Minister’s Office of Madhya Pradesh had informed in the social media of June 7 that many more trees should be planted in the development projects of the state than the trees cut. This will not harm the environment. In the development project of Chhatarpur district, 2 lakh trees will be cut while 10 lakh saplings should be planted there.
