In a statement, the ICC writes that Putin is “allegedly responsible for the war crime of illegal deportation of (child) population and illegal transfer of (child) population from occupied zones in Ukraine to the Russian Federation”.
Despite the symbolic importance of the decision of the court, dedicated to human rights and war crimes, it should not have practical consequences, as Russia does not recognize the authority of the ICC.
On Thursday, a report sponsored by the United Nations concluded that Russia had committed several war crimes, especially in Mariupol , where bombings reportedly killed hundreds of people before the city was taken.
In the aftermath of the interaction between a US drone and a Russian fighter (in what was the first direct encounter between US and Russian military forces), the Kremlin said it will not intervene in the recovery of the equipment, which fell into the Black Sea. , pointing this responsibility to the Russian army itself.
Voldymyr Zelensky, adviser to the president of Ukraine – “This is a clear signal for the elites of Russia about what will happen to it, in addition to the beginning of the end of the country led by Putin in its current form”.
“The world has changed. The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for ‘strategist’ Putin. It’s a clear signal to Russia’s elites about what will happen to them and why it won’t be ‘like before. Russian Federation in its current form on the world stage. It is clear legal procedure. Just wait,” Podolyak wrote on Twitter.
