Turkmenistan Desk, Delhi Magazine: The country’s first “smart city” Arkadag will be solemnly opened in Turkmenistan. It was built on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and named after him.

Turkmen means “Patron”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkmenistan, the city administration of Arkadag, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations and other departments were instructed to organize the opening ceremony of the city at a high level.

Celebrations in the city, which is located 30 kilometers from the capital of Turkmenistan Ashgabat, will be held on the day of the 66th anniversary of the leader of the Turkmen people, chairman of the Halk maslahaty (People’s Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Earlier, Serdar Berdimuhamedov handed over the keys to official cars for organizations and institutions of the city of Arkadag . Among them are the departments of health, finance and police.

Arkadag or “patron” – the leader of the nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov – walks through the shining lights of the city. This is a mega project. The second president of Turkmenistan supervised it personally. Field meetings were held weekly. The “smart city” of dreams is the visiting card of the country. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has also been here often. He laid the capsule in the foundation of one of the buildings.

According to Delhi Magazine, electric buses and electric taxis began to run in Arkadag. Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the new cars during a working trip.

The idea came up in 2018. In five years, 336 buildings were erected, including residential buildings and administrative buildings. Sokhbet Amanov has been designing for 11 years. Arkadag is the largest project for him. He is proud that he was able to participate in it as an architect.

“The Smart City concept includes not only smart apartments, electric transport, but also the use of innovative technologies to help people with disabilities. For example, tactile roads have been installed for blind people in the city, which help them navigate and reduce the risk of danger when moving,” said Sokhbet Amanov, chief engineer of the Turkmen State Design Association of the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan.

In new buildings, everything is for the convenience of residents. Such is the city. Traffic lights will be able to respond to changes in city traffic, parking lots will be able to signal motorists about free spaces, and garbage cans will inform public utilities about their filling. To preserve the environment, solar panels and wind generators have been installed, electric buses and electric taxis have been purchased.
