An officer who had received a call from the mall for another reason arrived in time to neutralize the guy and did so, city police chief Brian Harvey said at a news conference.

Ambulances from the Allen fire department, a city of about 100,000 inhabitants, transported no less than nine people with gunshot wounds to area hospitals, two of whom died immediately and three arrived in critical condition.
Medical City Healthcare, which runs 16 hospitals in the area, said in a statement that staff at its trauma centers were treating injured victims of the shooting, including a 5-year-old boy.
